5 Ways to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a great solution to getting rid of unwanted hair.  The process is simple and virtually painless, but there are ways you can make your experience easier.  Here are five ways to prepare for your laser hair removal appointment.

  1. Shave
    You should shave the treatment site according to your doctor’s instructions. The longer your hair is during the laser treatment, the more uncomfortable the procedure can be. The hair follicles need to be visible, but shaving can greatly reduce discomfort.
  2. Don’t Pluck or Wax
    While shaving is fine, plucking or waxing hair from the treatment area can reduce the laser treatment’s effectiveness.
  3. Avoid Tanning
    Your skin should be as light as possible before undergoing laser treatment. The hair’s pigment is what absorbs the light energy of the laser. When your skin is darker than usual, it could attract more light energy than your hair, causing the treatment to be less effective.  This can also cause painful blisters or burns.
  4. Clean Treatment Site
    Make sure the treatment site is clean and free of cosmetics or lotions prior to the procedure.
  5. Dress Appropriately
    Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that won’t cling to the sensitive skin of the treated area.
